The liturgy of the Mass is about the action of God's people, each with different offices and roles. The priest is the presider at every Mass, but each of us is called to be an active participant. Becoming involved in a liturgical ministry is one opportunity to fulfill our call of service to God and one another. Contact your parish for more information on these ministries.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (‘Eucharistic Ministers’) assist in the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Holy Communion when there is an insufficient number of priests and deacons at Mass, and bring Communion to the homebound and health care facilities. Eucharistic Ministers are practicing Catholics who have completed a preparation and instructional session, and are then commissioned for this ministry. They possess reverence and love for the Eucharist.
Greeters and ushers welcome parishioners and visitors coming to Church and answer questions that might come up. Ushers take up the offertory collection and other special collections, and are watchful for emergencies. Greeters and ushers are friendly, personable, able to interact with a wide variety of people.
Lectors (or Readers) bring the living Word of God to the liturgical assembly by proclaiming the readings from Sacred Scripture. Lectors are practicing Catholics who read well and are comfortable with public reading.
Those involved in this ministry help create a prayerful environment to draw us into a deeper awareness of God through creation. They have a knowledge and understanding of the guidelines the Church has given (or are willing to learn), as well as an understanding and appreciation of the liturgical seasons in the Church year.
The sacristan plays an important role in the smooth celebration of each Mass. Sacristans prepare and oversee the articles and elements required for the Liturgy. This includes liturgical books, lighting candles, setting out adequate altar breads and wine, as well as being present if the priest needs additional help. The sacristan has a love and respect for the Eucharist.
